  • What is Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM)?

Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM) entails the automated measurement of glucose levels every few minutes through a sensor inserted beneath the skin.

The system uses this information to analyze trends and predict the trajectory of glucose levels. The information is visually represented by an arrow indicator.

CGM empowers you to gain deeper insights into glucose dynamics by providing real-time glucose values along with directional insights.

  • How does CGM differ from testing with a blood glucose meter?

Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM) systems differ from  traditional blood glucose meters in these ways:

    Blood Glucose Meters (BGM):

    • Method: BGM devices measure glucose levels by analyzing a small blood sample obtained from a fingertip. You place the blood sample on a test strip inserted into the meter.
    • Accuracy: BGM readings are generally accurate within certain ranges, meeting strict standards set by the FDA. However, they provide a snapshot of your glucose level at that specific moment.
    • Frequency: BGM requires multiple finger pricks throughout the day to monitor glucose levels.

    Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM):

    • Method: CGM systems measure glucose in the interstitial fluid (the fluid between cells just under the skin) rather than directly in the blood. A tiny sensor is inserted under the skin (usually on the belly or arm) using an applicator.
    • Data Collection: CGMs automatically and continuously provide glucose values every few minutes. The data is transmitted to a receiver (similar to a cellphone) or a smartphone app.
    • Accuracy: While CGMs offer real-time data, their accuracy can vary due to calibration, sensor chemistry, and individual body differences. It’s essential to confirm CGM readings with a fingerstick before making treatment decisions.
    • Sensor Duration: Most CGMs require sensor replacement every 7-14 days. However, the Med-Y-Care LLC CGM System boasts a single sensor that lasts for months.

Remember, both BGM and CGM play crucial roles in managing diabetes. BGM provides immediate readings, while CGM offers a broader perspective over time. Consult your healthcare team to determine which option best suits your needs and preference

  • Is CGM better than testing with a meter?

CGM provides a real-time, dynamic view of how your glucose levels fluctuate over time.

Unlike traditional fingerstick samples, CGM continuously tracks changes without the need for frequent pricks.

This moving picture helps you understand the impact of diet, exercise, and other health factors on your glucose levels.

    Alerts and Safety:

CGM systems issue alerts when your glucose levels are changing rapidly or approaching unsafe thresholds. These timely notifications empower you to take corrective actions and maintain better control.

    Clinical Evidence:

Research studies demonstrate that regular CGM use can reduce A1c levels without increasing the risk of hypoglycemia.

CGM provides a comprehensive and proactive approach to managing diabetes, enhancing your understanding and safety while promoting better glucose control.

  • What is DME?

Durable Medical Equipment (DME) refers to medical devices that enhance the quality of life. Our specialization is in “off-the-shelf” orthotic bracing, which serves as an excellent alternative to other available treatments. Here are the key points about DME:

    • Cost-Effective: DME is typically a one-time cost, not an ongoing expense. Unlike treatments involving opiates, surgery, or addictive prescriptions, DME doesn’t carry the risk of harmful side effects.
    • Painless Support: DME provides effective pain relief without causing discomfort. They help reduce pain and enhance overall well-being.
    • Beyond Hospitals: DME extends care beyond the hospital. It offers additional support to patients dealing with both temporary and permanent conditions.

In summary, DME plays a crucial role in improving patients’ lives by providing safe, supportive, and cost-efficient solutions.
